Greek life brings ample opportunity for community services and volunteer work. The Ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma relish in these opportunities. From our annual Kappa Golf Classic to our semi-annual Kappa Dog Night cook-out we enjoy donating our time to great causes.

Kappa Charities

Kappa Kidney Camp

The Gamma Province of Kappa Kappa Gamma, which consists of all Ohio Kappa chapters, is very unique in that we all work together within the state to raise money for one very special charity. Kappa Kidney Camp is a children’s summer camp that every year welcomes up to 50 children who suffer from kidney problems and would otherwise be unable to attend summer camp. A twenty-four hour medical staff of volunteers attend to each camper and their medical needs throughout the week. This camp gives these children a special place to go where they can make friends with children with similar needs. The week is full of fantastic summer camp activities like swimming, crafts, boating and more. This gift that we are able to give these children and their families is priceless and we are even able to see the fruits of our labor during "Kappa Day," a visiting day at camp for all the Ohio Kappa chapters. In 2004, Kappa adopted RIF (Reading Is Fundamental) as our national philanthropy. This new charity is focused on building children’s literacy by helping them discover the joy of reading. The Ladies of Beta Nu have donated many books to this organization as well as volunteered their time to read to underprivileged children around the Columbus area. To read more about RIF please visit their website, www.rif.org.

Kappa Philanthropy Events

Kappa Golf Classic

The Kappa Golf Classic is our annual golf tournament that is held in the spring. The Ladies of Kappa invite friends and family to participate in a fantastic day of golf to raise money for Kappa Kidney Camp. We act as caddies to our chosen teams and have a blast driving golf-carts and sharing a great day with each other and with our friends. The day ends with awards ceremonies and a lovely catered dinner at the clubhouse. All in all a great day on the green.

Kappa Dog Night

Kappa Dog Night is an event that Kappa hosts twice a year as a fundraiser for our charities. In the fall and spring the Kappas hold a huge cook-out on the front lawn of the Dream House from 1 a.m.-3 a.m. Thursday nights. The entire campus is invited to these events and they have continued to be successful year after year. It also continues to be a great party and a fun time to spend with our friends while raising money for wonderful causes. Music, food, and the occasional appearance of a Kappa in the infamous Kappa Hot Dog costume make this an event we all look very forward to.

Other Philanthropy Work

Not only do we volunteer on behalf of our Kappa philanthropies, we also participate in volunteer efforts all throughout the year. Our latest efforts include:

  • The Ladies of Beta Nu supported one of our own sisters who has survived cancer at the Light the Night Walk held by The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Beekman Park. We raised money for the organization and participated in a walk to support our lovely sister Amanda!
  • The Beta Nu’s, along with many other members of the Greek community at Ohio State, attended a Spaghetti Dinner that raised money for the Hurricane Katrina victims during Homecoming Week.
  • Our annual Kappa Dog Night was held one rainy Thursday night this October. Despite the raindrops, the Kappa ladies ran yet another successful event to raise money for our wonderful Kappa Kidney Camp on the front lawn of the Dream House.
